  28. Yes it can be done, first mount PC1, either by double clicking the

  30. PC1: icon located in storage, alternatively open a shell and type

  32. Mount PC1:

  34. Now load crossdos (tools/commodities).

  36. Go back to your shell window and type:

  38. Format Drive PC1: Nameofdisk PCDISK
  39. NOICONS

  42. Make sure that you have the MFM device in your devs: drawer,

  44. all should be okeydokey....

  73. I always find that my mates machine loads programs much faster, it

  75. also formats much faster! Mine takes about 20 minutes to format using

  77. the workbench formatting process, my mates takes about 5 minutes, and

  79. his has a larger drive! Why? Is mine buggered?

  85. There's nothing wrong with either of your Hard drives. Has your

  87. mate got a 3.5" drive and you with a 2.5", are they both the same

  89. make? You stated they're both different sizes, so I presume it is possible

  91. that your mate has a higher spec, 3.5" drive?

  93. Is this so? I find 3.5" drive to be much faster than 2.5" drives, also

  95. you can get drives which are capable of different speeds, measured

  97. in Kb/s or Mb/s i.e 1 Meg per second, 800k per second or whatever,

  99. most drives hover around the 1Mb per second speed, although they

  101. can go much much faster. Older drives also tend to be much slower, my

  103. old Seagate 2.5" was rated by Misinfo (sysinfo) to run at 415k per second.

  105. My new gigabyte drive (I had to get that one in) is rated at just over
  106.  
  107. 2Mb per second with misinfo, this is because it is a 3.5" and it is
  108.  
  109. one of the faster types, although the lightening is faster.

  111. Which reminds me, does your mate have an 030, 040 .... etc?

  113. Does he have fastram? All these contribute to speed.
